Pioneers capture 6-1 non-conference victory over Bethel

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Bethel (Tenn.) University in non-conference action at the Nichols Tennis Complex Monday morning.

The Pioneers (7-3) swept doubles and won the first three singles matches to clinch the win over the Wildcats (3-2).

In doubles play, Rory Church and Valentina Loretz picked up a 6-1 win over Kelsie Seiber and Lexi Daniels at flight three, followed by a 6-1 victory at flight two from Leonie Floeth and Paulina Loretz over Sophia Vasconcellos and Marina Zotelli. The Pioneers finished the doubles sweep as Elodie Baechler and Tabitha Howe beat Tijana Svitlica and Anabella Baralt by a 6-2 score at flight one.

In singles, Paulina Loretz beat Daniels 6-1, 6-0 at flight four and Church earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Samantha Jo Stone at flight six. Baechler clinched the match for the Pioneers with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Zotelli at flight six.

Also earning wins for the Pioneers were Johanna Palacio, who beat Seiber 8-1 in a pro set at flight five, and Howe who was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Baralt at flight three.

Tusculum will return to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, March 12 with a 2 p.m. home match against Lincoln Memorial.
