Pioneers claim All-Academic Team, Scholar-Athlete accolades from ITA

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team has been honored with inclusion on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II All-Academic Team for the 2020 season.

The Pioneer women were among 129 teams earning the Division II ITA All-Academic Team distinction. All-Academic Team status is granted to a program that has a team grade-point average of 3.2 or better.

Tusculum had 11 members selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes, for having a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the current academic year. Nationally, there were 762 women honored as Division II ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2019-20 season.

The Tusculum women's tennis team, which has earned ITA All-Academic Team honors in eight of the past nine years and 13 of the last 17 seasons, has the second-highest GPA among Tusculum's 24 intercollegiate sports programs at 3.618.

Earning All-Academic Team honors for the Pioneer women were seniors Julia Lopez, Annie McCullough, Caitlin McCullough, Africa Mota and Lyndsey Pulliam, junior Javiera Ortiz, sophomores Emilie Hansen, Martina Marras and Aizat Zholdakayeva, and freshmen Rory Church and Chelsea Daugherty.

Head coach Adam Jackson finished his fifth season at the helm of the Tusculum women's tennis programs in 2020. He guided the Pioneer women to a 6-3 mark during the abbreviated spring season.
