FLORENCE, S.C. --- The 17th-ranked Tusculum University women's tennis team defeated Francis Marion University 5-2 Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Kassab Courts.
The Pioneers (6-3) picked up two tiebreaker wins to earn the doubles point, then had to rally from a 2-1 deficit by winning the final four singles matches over the Patriots (7-4).
In doubles, Africa Mota and Aizat Zholdakayeva teamed up to beat Magan Head and Eva Zannier 7-6 (7-5) at flight two, followed by Sarah Primik and Amber Lackey defeating Lesshika Vala and Hermon Mikael 7-6 (8-6) at flight three to clinch the team point.
In singles, the Pioneers fell behind 2-1 as the Patriots earned wins at flights two and three, but Mota tied the match by defeating Head 6-2, 7-5 at flight five. Julia Lopez put the Pioneers ahead 3-2 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Zannier at flight one, and Primik delivered the clinch with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elisa Lang at flight four. Martina Marras closed out the afternoon by beating Vala 6-1, 1-6, (10-6) at flight six.
