Pioneers return to win column with 6-1 victory at Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team snapped a two-match losing skid with a 6-1 win at Coker University Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

The 17th-ranked Pioneers (5-3, 2-1 SAC) swept doubles from the Cobras (5-3, 0-1 SAC) and won five of the six singles matches to earn the win.

In doubles, Emilie Hansen and Julia Lopez defeated Charlotte Clarke and Gabriela Del Val 6-4 at flight one, Africa Mota teamed with Aizat Zholdakayeva for a 6-4 win at flight two over Tamie Chew and Gracie Waldron, and Sarah Primik and Amber Lacket won 6-3 at flight three over Kelli Stinchcomb and Zoe Heed.

In singles play, Lopez defeated Chew 6-4, 6-3 at flight one, and Hansen was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at flight two over Clarke. Primik downed Heed 6-2, 6-4 at flight four, Mota won 8-4 at flight five over Waldron, and Martina Marras claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Stinchcomb at flight six.

The Pioneers will travel back to South Carolina to face Francis Marion on Thursday at 2 p.m.
