Pioneers remain 17th in ITA Division II rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team remains 17th in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's Team Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.

The Pioneers, who are off to a 3-1 start this season, have won two of their three matches played this spring including a 5-2 victory over Newberry in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Tusculum is one of three SAC schools in this month's Top 25, joining Wingate (11th) and Queens (tied for 19th). Other Pioneer opponents in the rankings including Indianapolis (4th), which beat Tusculum 6-1 on Feb. 2, and North Georgia (10th), which visits the Nichols Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Pioneers play at Wingate on Saturday, March 21 and host Queens on Sunday, April 5.

The top 10 teams remained unchanged from the preseason poll, led by Barry and followed by Lynn, Columbus State, Indianapolis and Nova Southeastern in the top five.

The next rankings from the ITA will be unveiled on Wednesday, March 18 and will include both singles and doubles rankings in addition to the national team poll. Team and individual rankings will then continue each week through Wednesday, April 29, with the final rankings of the season unveiled on May 27.

The Pioneers will host Young Harris in their first home match of the spring on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
