19th-ranked Pioneers sweep Mars Hill, 7-0

MARS HILL, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team earned its ninth straight victory by defeating Mars Hill University 7-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The 19th-ranked Pioneers (12-2, 7-0 SAC) did not lose a set in singles against the Lions (8-11, 0-8 SAC) after sweeping all three doubles contests.

In doubles, the team of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough beat Julianna Launay and Evan Lake by a 6-1 score at flight one, the Pioneers' 33rd-ranked duo of Julia Lopez and Africa Mota was a 6-3 winner over Sophia Pelaez and Haley Steinkamp at flight two, and Emilie Hansen teamed with Brittani Brooks for a 6-1 win at flight three over Kat Horner and Victoria Franklin.

In singles play, two-time defending SAC Player of the Week and 65th-ranked Annie McCullough beat Launay 6-0, 6-0 at flight one and Caitlin McCullough downed Lake 6-2, 6-4 at flight two. Hansen won 6-0, 6-3 over Pelaez at flight three, and Mota defeated Franklin 6-0, 6-1 at flight four. At flight five, Martina Marras won 6-2, 6-1 over Steinkamp and Brooks beat Horner 6-0, 6-0 at flight six.

The Pioneers will host 11th-ranked Wingate in a showdown of the last two unbeaten teams in the SAC on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
