Annie McCullough wins second straight SAC Player of the Week award

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University junior Annie McCullough has been selected the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis for the week ending March 31, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second consecutive week that McCullough has won the award.

McCullough went 3-0 in both singles and doubles as the 37th-ranked Pioneers extended their winning streak to eight matches with wins over 17th-ranked Queens (5-2) on Wednesday, 44th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne (5-2) on Friday and Bluefield State (7-0) on Sunday.

McCullough, a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, played top singles for the Pioneers and began the week with a 6-2, 6-0 win over 59th-ranked Sasha Davidzenka of Queens. She then beat Gemma Southwick of Lenoir-Rhyne 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and ended the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eva Rubio of Bluefield State. McCullough is now 11-2 in singles this season including a perfect 6-0 mark against SAC opponents.

In doubles, McCullough teamed with her sister, Caitlin, for wins against Queens (6-0), Lenoir-Rhyne (6-4) and Bluefield State (6-0) to improve their season record to 12-1 as a duo with 10 straight victories.

The Pioneers (11-2, 6-0 SAC) will play at Mars Hill Wednesday at 2 p.m. before hosting nationally-ranked Wingate Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex in a showdown between the final two unbeaten teams in the SAC standings.
