GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team celebrated the dedication of the Lesley Murray Hawk Center Court with a 7-0 win over Coker College in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Between the doubles and singles matches, Court 3 was dedicated in honor of Hawk, a four-time SAC Player of the Year and member of both the Tusculum and SAC Sports Hall of Fames. The 2004 Tusculum graduate was assisted by her husband and son in unveiling a sign as part of the ceremony.
On the court, the Pioneers (6-2, 2-0 SAC) won their third straight match convincingly over the Cobras (3-8, 0-2 SAC) as Tusculum did not drop more than two games in any set between singles and doubles.
In doubles action, the Pioneers won all three contests by identical 6-1 scores. Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Charlotte Clarke and Tammie Chew at flight one, Julia Lopez and Africa Mota beat Zoe Heed and Kelli Stinchcomb at flight two, and Brittani Brooks and Martina Marras won at flight three against Lea Weber and Kelli Hurt.
In singles play, Annie McCullough was the winner of the first match on the newly-christened Lesley Murray Hawk Court, beating Clarke 6-1, 6-2 at flight one. Lopez was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Heed at flight three, and Marras defeated Stinchcomb 6-1, 6-2 at flight five.
The remainder of the match was played in a pro set format, with Tusculum winning all three flights by 8-2 scores. Caitlin McCullough won at flight two over Chew, Mota beat Weber at flight four and Brooks downed Hurt at flight six.
Tusculum will remain home to take on Carson-Newman on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
