Pioneers win 6-1 over Anderson in SAC opener

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team opened its South Atlantic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Anderson University at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (5-2, 1-0 SAC) swept all three doubles matches to earn the team point, then won three singles matches in straight sets to capture the victory over the Trojans (9-3, 1-1 SAC).

In doubles, the tandem of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Laura Dean and Mirna Curcic by a 6-0 score at flight one, Julia Lopez and Africa Mota beat Hannah Weaver and Cameron Blanchard 6-3 at flight two, and Emilie Hansen teamed with Brittani Brooks for a 7-5 win at flight three over Hanna Tarlouskaya and Jacqueline Olivia.

In singles, Annie McCullough beat Curcic 6-2, 6-0 at flight two, Caitlin McCullough won 6-2, 6-4 at flight three over Tarlouskaya and Lopez defeated Olivia 6-2, 6-0 at flight four as the Pioneers clinched the match. Mota went three sets to outlast Weaver 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at flight five, and Martina Marras won 8-6 over Blanchard in a pro set at flight six.

The Pioneers are off until Saturday, March 16 when Coker visits for a SAC match beginning at 11 a.m.
