10th-ranked Indianapolis defeats Pioneers, 7-0

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The University of Indianapolis defeated Tusculum University 7-0 in non-conference women's tennis action Friday afternoon.

The 10th-ranked Greyhounds (5-0), with a lineup that had nationally-ranked players at four of the nine positions, did not lose a set against the Pioneers (2-1), who were playing their first ranked opponent of the season.

In doubles, the fourth-ranked UIndy team of Nikol Alexeeva and Anya Novikova beat Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough 6-3 at flight one, the 16th-ranked Greyhound duo of Hanna Volikova and Maja Pindelska won 6-2 at flight two over Julia Lopez and Africa Mota, and the tandem of Anna Valiaeva and Alina Kislitskaya downed Brittani Brooks and Emilie Hansen 6-4 at flight three.

In singles, 19th-ranked Alexeeva beat 35th-ranked Annie McCullough 6-2, 6-0 in a matchup of ranked opponents at flight one. Hansen came the closest to winning a set for the Pioneers at flight two, falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to fourth-ranked Volikova.

In the other matches, Novikova defeated Caitlin McCullough 6-4, 6-4 at flight three, Pindelska defeated Lopez 6-1, 6-2 at flight four, Valiaeva won 6-2, 6-2 over Mota at flight five, and Chloe Weihs was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at flight six over Martina Marras.

Tusculum will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 12th-ranked North Georgia.
