Pioneers open season with 7-0 win at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team opened its 2018-19 season with a 7-0 win over King University Wednesday afternoon.

The Pioneers (1-0) lost just one set in three doubles matches to earn the team point, then swept all 10 singles sets to earn the win over the Tornado (0-1).

Tusculum won the doubles point by sweeping all three sets. At flight one, Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Marylin Roustand and Jordan Karmatz 6-1, Africa Mota and Brittani Brooks beat Vanessa Francois and Lauren Smorgonsky 6-0 at flight two, and at flight three Emilie Hansen and Amber Lackey won 6-0 over Isla Bell and Murphy Harr.

In singles, Hansen won 6-1, 6-4 at flight one over Francois, Annie McCullough defeated Roustand 6-1, 6-0 at flight two, and Caitlin McCullough won 6-2, 6-1 at flight three over Karmatz.

At flight four, Martina Marras won 8-3 over Smorgonsky, Julia Lopez beat Bell 6-1, 6-0 at flight five and Mota won 8-0 at flight six over Harr.

Tusculum will host Virginia-Wise on Sunday at noon at the Greene County Tennis Center.
