GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum won by shutout for the fourth time in six South Atlantic Conference matches this season, as the Pioneers remained undefeated with a 9-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in women's tennis action Friday afternoon.
The 19th-ranked Pioneers (16-0, 6-0 SAC) have 10 victories this season without losing a match, including three of their last four overall and three straight at home. Tusculum has not lost a point at any of the top three singles flights, and have won 34 of 36 singles matches in conference action so far this season.
In doubles, the 10th-ranked team of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough shut out Emily Murchland and Sanne Janssen 8-0 at flight one to improve their record to 14-1. AT flight two, the duo of Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke boosted its record to 13-0 by winning 8-1 against Marta Escanero Funes and Taylor Frederickson, while Africa Mota and Amber Lackey won for the 10th time in 12 matches with a 8-5 victory over Sara Kalkenova and Iulia Ponomareva at flight three.
In singles, 15th-ranked Majorova went to 12-0 as she won 6-2, 6-1 over Funes at flight one, 53rd-ranked Funke beat Ponomareva 6-0, 6-0 at flight two to move her season record to 13-0, and 25th-ranked Annie McCullough was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Kalkenova at flight three as she won her 12th match without a loss. At flight four, Caitlin McCullough went to 11-1 as she posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Murchland. The Pioneers wrapped up the match with a pair of pro set victories, as Angelica De Vincenzis won 8-4 over Janssen at flight five, and Mota downed Frederickson 8-2 at flight six.
Tusculum will take on Queens in a battle of SAC unbeatens next Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
