19th-ranked Pioneers now 15-0 after 9-0 shutout of Mars Hill

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's tennis team stayed undefeated Wednesday afternoon as the 19th-ranked Pioneers shut out Mars Hill 9-0 in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (15-0, 5-0 SAC) lost four games in doubles and a total of nine games in six singles matches against the Lions (2-11, 0-5 SAC) for their eighth shutout of the season. Tusculum has won 43 of 45 matches between singles and doubles in conference play, and 126 out of 135 overall.

Tusculum earned the sweep in doubles as the 10th-ranked team of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Jasha Geerdink and Evan Lake by a score of 8-4 at flight one. At flight two, Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke shut out Sophia Pelaez and Dani Potts 8-0, while Africa Mota and Amber Lackey were 8-0 victors over Demarron Johnson and Brittany Wilkins at flight three.

In singles, 15th-ranked Majorova downed Geerdink 6-1, 6-0 at flight one, 53rd-ranked Funke beat Lake 6-3, 6-2 at flight two, 25th-ranked Annie McCullough captured a 6-3, 6-0 win over Pelaez at flight three and at flight four, Caitlin McCullough downed Potts 6-0, 6-0. Tusculum also recorded two wins in pro sets, with Angelica De Vincenzis winning 8-0 at flight five over Johnson, and Mota beating Wilkins 8-0 at flight six.

The Pioneers, who share first place in the SAC with 21st-ranked Wingate and 41st-ranked Queens at 5-0, will host Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
