Pioneers open SAC schedule with 9-0 win over Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Tusculum opened its South Atlantic Conference women's tennis schedule with a 9-0 victory at Coker Saturday afternoon.

The 21st-ranked Pioneers (10-0, 1-0 SAC) finished a stretch of six matches in eight days during which they won all 35 contested singles matches and 17 of 18 doubles matches against the opposition. Of the 35 singles wins, 32 were in straight sets and none of the set losses came at any of the top four flights.

In doubles, the 20th-ranked team of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Jennifer Mezei and Suzanna Mickey 8-2, Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke teamed to beat Jennifer Ruetten and Julia Sorrells 8-2 at flight two, and Africa Mota and Amber Lackey downed Charlotte Clarke and Jenna Gainey 8-3 at flight three.

In singles, 12th-ranked Majorova beat Mezei 6-2, 6-3 at flight one, 47th-ranked Funke defeated Mickey 6-2, 6-1 at flight two, and 27th-ranked Annie McCullough was a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ruetten at flight three. At flight four, Caitlin McCullough was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Sorrells, Mota beat Clarke 12-10 in a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 2-6 at flight five, and Angelica De Vimcenzis beat Gainey 6-3, 6-3 at flight six.

The Pioneers will return home to face Anderson on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
