Win over Salem fourth straight shutout for 21st-ranked Pioneers

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The 21st-ranked Tusculum women's tennis team stretched its record to 8-0 with a 9-0 shutout win over Salem in non-conference women's tennis action Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers' victory was their fourth in a span of five days, all by 9-0 scores, and featured nine different players on the court between singles and doubles. The Tigers fell to 1-10 with the loss.

Tusculum opened action in singles and did not drop a set in six matches. Africa Mota defeated Anna Kovalova 6-2, 6-4 at flight one, Angelica De Vincenzis won 6-3, 6-3 over Kristina Vuksanovic at flight two and Julia Lopez won at flight three by a 6-0, 6-0 score over Shelby Turpin. At flight four, Brittani Brooks won 6-0, 6-0 over Alaina Weltz, Amber Lackey defeated Megan Perez 6-1, 6-1 at flight five and Javiera Ortiz was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Waverly Federico at flight six.

In doubles, the 20th-ranked team of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Kovalova and Vuksanovic 8-0, Brooks and Ortiz downed Megan Perez and Federico 8-0 at flight two, and De Vimcenzis and Chrystal Pierce beat Jennifer Perez and Brianna Vasquez 8-1 at flight three.

Tusculum will close its spring break trip with a match against regionally-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday morning at 8 a.m.
