21st-ranked Pioneers earn 9-0 victory over Chowan

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The 21st-ranked Tusculum women's tennis team boosted its record to 7-0 with a 9-0 victory over Chowan Tuesday morning in the first of three matches over spring break for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers lost a total of three games between the top four singles flights in their third 9-0 win in a span of four days. Tusculum has lost just one set in singles in those three matches, and has won 60 out of 63 matches between singles and doubles in their seven victories this season.

In doubles, the Pioneers won all three pro sets by identical 8-3 scores, as 20th-ranked Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Polina Novachuk and Cynthia Carrier at flight one, Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke beat Victoria Smolchenkova and Hanna Tarlouskaya at flight two, and Africa Mota and Amber Lackey won over Lenka Styblova and Angelique Gouin at flight three.

In singles, 12th-ranked Majorova shut out Novachuk 6-0, 6-0 at flight one, 47th-ranked Funke beat Carrier 6-1, 6-0 at flight two and 27th-ranked Annie McCullough whitewashed Smolchenkova 6-0, 6-0 at flight three. At flight four, Angelica De Vincenzis was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Tarlouskaya, Julia Lopez won 6-3, 7-5 over Styblova at flight five, and Brittani Brooks won 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) over Gouin at flight six.

Tusculum returns to action Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. against Salem International.
