BLUEFIELD, W.Va. --- 21st-ranked Tusculum cruised to a 9-0 victory over Bluefield State in non-conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (5-0) lost one game in doubles and seven in singles in the victory over the Big Blues in their first match since earning a national ranking from the ITA earlier this week.
In doubles, Africa Mota and Amber Lackey defeated Milica Kmjaja and Milica Knezevic 8-1 at flight one, Brittani Brooks and Angelica De Vincenzis downed Sophie Bygrave and Kelsi Browning 8-0 at flight two, and Javiera Ortiz and Julia Lopez blanked Katie Combs and Elizabeth Doughty 8-0 at flight three.
In singles, Mota defeated Bygrave by default at flight one, De Vimcenzis won 6-3, 6-0 over Knezevic at flight two, and Lopez beat Kmjaja 6-1, 6-1 at flight three. Brooks won 6-1, 6-0 over Browning at flight four, Lackey defeated Combs 6-1, 6-0 at flight five and Ortiz shut out Doughty 6-0, 6-0 at flight six.
The Pioneers will play their spring homecourt opener on Sunday against undefeated Bellarmine starting at 10 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
