Pioneers sweep King 9-0 to stay unbeaten

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's tennis team picked up its third straight victory to open the fall season with a 9-0 win over King in non-conference action Monday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (3-0) faced a shorthanded lineup for the Tornado (0-1), resulting in forfeit victories at flight six in singles and flight three in doubles.

In the other two doubles matches, Franziska Funke and Katarina Majorova defeated Vanessa Francois and Thalia Roustand Ruiz by an 8-0 score at flight one, and Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough downed Isla Bell and Jennifer Harr 8-1 at flight two.

In singles, Funke defeated Harr 6-1, 6-0 at flight one, Africa Mota beat Ruiz 6-1, 6-1 at flight two and Julia Lopez won 6-2, 6-0 over Francois at flight three. In pro set action, Jessica Lackey defeated Bell 8-1 at flight four, and Lyndsey Pulliam downed Morgan Buchanan 8-0 at flight five.

The Pioneers will compete at the ITA Division II Southeast Regional starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
