ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum freshman Katarina Majorova has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis for the week of April 10-16, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second time this season that Majorova has won the award.

Majorova steamrolled her way to four singles wins last week, and teamed with Franziska Funke for three victories in four doubles matches. The freshman from Martin, Slovakia lost a total of nine games in her four singles victories, including a 6-0, 6-0 win over the number-one singles player for Division I Western Carolina. Her other singles wins came 6-4, 6-1 against North Greenville, 6-1, 6-2 against Coker and 6-0, 6-1 against Southern Wesleyan.

In addition to a 6-3 win over the top doubles team for Western Carolina, the doubles tandem of Majorova and Funke won two other matches last week, by identical 8-2 scores against North Greenville and Coker.

Majorova is 15-6 in singles and 18-6 in doubles for the 39th-ranked Pioneers (17-6), who captured third place in the SAC with a 9-2 league record and earned the number-three seed in this week's conference tournament. Tusculum will face sixth-seeded Newberry in a first-round match Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, with the semifinals to be held Friday and the championship match on Saturday.
