#39 Pioneers finish perfect home schedule with 8-1 win over Coker

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's tennis team concluded its South Atlantic Conference and home schedule with an 8-1 win over Coker Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 39th-ranked Pioneers (16-6, 9-2 SAC) swept doubles and won five of the six singles matches against the Cobras (6-9, 4-7 SAC) to finish with a perfect 9-0 record on their home court.

In doubles, Franziska Funke and Katarina Majorova defeated Jennifer Mezei and Jenna Gainey 8-2 at flight one, Annie McCullough and Jule Brass downed Jennifer Ruetten and Julia Sorrells 8-3 at flight two, and Brittani Brooks teamed with Amber Lackey to defeat Sarah Elliott and Suzanna Mickey 8-2 at flight three.

In singles, Majorova defeated Ruetten 6-1, 6-2 at flight one, Funke downed Mezei 6-3, 6-0 at flight two and McCullough beat Gainey 8-1 at flight three. At flight four, Africa Mota was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Mickey, while Brooks won 8-5 over Elliott at flight six.

Tusculum will return to action Friday afternoon with a match against Southern Wesleyan on the campus of Western Carolina starting at 1 p.m., followed by an exhibition match with the host Catamounts at 4 p.m.
