CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Queens University of Charlotte handed Tusculum its first South Atlantic Conference loss of the season by a score of 7-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Royals (8-3, 6-2 SAC) won two out of three in doubles and five out of six in singles against the Pioneers (12-5, 7-1 SAC), who fell out of a first-place tie with Wingate with the loss.
Tusculum's lone win in doubles came at flight three, where Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey defeated Melissa Laing and Ana Bolson 8-3. The closest match came at flight one, as the Royals' Carlotta Nassi and Marta Gonzalez defeated Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke by a score of 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 8-6.
In singles, the Pioneers' lone victory was at flight three as Annie McCullough was a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 winner over Laing. The Royals won the other five matches in straight sets.
The Pioneers will be back home Tuesday afternoon to face Anderson in a SAC match starting at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
