#39 Tusculum has win streak end with 7-2 loss to #38 Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. --- The 39th-ranked Tusculum women's tennis team had its nine-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 7-2 loss to 38th-ranked Young Harris College in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams.

The Mountain Lions (12-5) led 2-1 after doubles and won five of six singles matches to send the Pioneers (12-4) to their first loss since Feb. 17 at North Georgia. All four of the Pioneers' losses this season have come to nationally-ranked opponents.

Tusculum gained the early lead in doubles as Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey defeated Oriana Labaqui and Laura Sanchez 8-3 at flight three. However, Young Harris won the other two doubles matches to go on top 2-1 heading into singles play.

In singles, Annie McCullough defeated Labaqui 6-0, 6-4 at flight three to level the match at 2-2, but the Mountain Lions swept the remaining five matches in straight sets to come away with the victory.

Tusculum will look to rebound on Saturday when the Pioneers head to Charlotte to face Queens University, which is ranked 50th in the latest ITA Division II poll. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
