Tusculum defeats Catawba 7-2 for seventh straight win

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum won its seventh consecutive match on Friday afternoon as the Pioneers defeated Catawba 7-2 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action.

The Pioneers (10-3, 5-0 SAC) won the first five points to clinch the match against the Indians (10-6, 2-4 SAC) to remain tied for first place in the conference with Wingate. Tusculum is ranked ninth in this week's Oracle/ITA Southeast Region rankings.

In doubles, the regionally-ranked team of Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke defeated Sophie Hirsch and Olivia Wooldridge 8-1 at flight one, Annie McCullough and Sarah Baker downed Kristen Rocko and Maddy Henderson 8-2 at flight two, and Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey downed Emily Corcoran and Kirstin Saltus 8-1 at flight three.

In singles, the regionally-ranked Majorova defeated Hirsch 6-4, 6-0 at flight one and Brooks beat Corcoran 6-4, 6-2 at flight six to clinch the match. In other contests, Funke beat Rocko 6-3, 6-2 at flight two and McCullough downed Wooldridge 8-1 in a pro set at flight three.

The Pioneers will be home on Wednesday, March 22 to take on Carson-Newman at the Nichols Tennis Complex starting at 1 p.m.
