Tusculum defeats Lenoir-Rhyne 8-1 to move to 3-0 in SAC

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (5-3, 3-0 SAC) swept doubles and won five of the six singles matches against the Bears (4-5, 1-2 SAC) to win for the third time in their last four contests.

In doubles, the team of Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke defeated Marta Escanero Funes and Emily Murchland 8-2 at flight one, Annie McCullough and Sarah Baker downed Iulia Ponomareva and Sara Kalkenova 8-0 at flight two, and Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey beat Sophia Aguilar di Camillo and Abbi Wood 8-0 at flight three.

In singles, Majorova defeated Kalkenova 6-2, 6-2 at flight one, Funke beat Ponomareva 6-3, 6-4 at flight two and McCullough downed Funes 6-4, 6-1 at flight three. At flight five, Africa Mota was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Aguilar di Camillo, and at flight six Brooks defeated Jessica Rumple 6-0, 6-1 to round out the match.

The Pioneers will be home Tuesday at 2 p.m. against North Greenville University in a non-conference match at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
