BREVARD, N.C. --- Tusculum College defeated Brevard College 9-0 Thursday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action.
The Pioneers (4-3, 2-0 SAC) were beneficiary of three walkover wins by a depleted Tornado (0-6, 0-4 SAC) squad, including two forfeits in singles and one in doubles.
In doubles, the team of Franziska Funke and Katarina Majorova defeated Kelsey Kushner and Sam Miranda 8-0 at flight one, while Annie McCullough and Sarah Baker downed Katie Hatter and Gabi Harness at flight two by an identical score.
In singles, Amber Lackey won 6-0, 6-1 over Kushner at flight one, Lyndsey Pulliam downed Miranda 8-0 at flight two, Jule Brass beat Hatter 8-0 at flight three, while at flight four Chrystal Pierce edged Harness 9-8 (7-5) in the final match of the day.
The Pioneers will be home on Saturday to face Lenoir-Rhyne in the team's first home conference match of the season. Action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
