34th-ranked North Georgia edges Tusculum, 5-4

DAHLONEGA, Ga. --- The University of North Georgia won three of the four singles matches that went three sets as the 34th-ranked Nighthawks defeated Tusculum College 5-4 in non-conference women's tennis action Friday afternoon.

The Nighthawks (5-0) trailed 2-1 after doubles, but pulled out victories at flights one, two and five to defeat the Pioneers (3-3), whose three losses have come to nationally-ranked opponents.

In doubles, the team of Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke defeated Kathrin Waidner and Felicia Baratta 8-1 at flight one, while Annie McCullough and Sarah Baker beat Holly Bennett and Emma Etelalahti 9-7 at flight two.

In singles, McCullough rallied from a set down for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Bennett at flight three, while Brittani Brooks won 6-2, 6-2 at flight six over Laura Van Der Hage. The decisive point came at flight five, where the Nighthawks' Lexa Loden came back for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Baker in the final match of the day.

Tusculum will return to South Atlantic Conference action on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brevard.
