Funke, Majorova ranked eighth in Southeast Region in doubles

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis doubles team of junior Franziska Funke and freshman Katarina Majorova is ranked eighth in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Southeast Region Rankings, released Tuesday.

The duo compiled a 4-2 overall record during two dual matches and a pair of tournaments during the fall season, helping the Pioneers to victories over King (9-0) and Virginia-Wise (6-3).

In tournament play, Funke and Majorova advanced to the quarterfinals of Small College ITA/Oracle Southeast Regional Championship in Sumter, South Carolina, defeating the ninth-ranked team from Mount Olive in their opening match before losing 8-6 to the fourth-ranked doubles team from Francis Marion.

Funke, a native of Bochum, Germany, has a three-year doubles record of 37-8 for the Pioneers, including a 21-7 mark at flight one. Majorova, who hails from Martin, Slovakia, went 5-2 in singles during the fall while playing at the number-one position for the Pioneers.

The ITA national team, singles and doubles rankings will be released next Monday, Nov. 21.

Tusculum will resume its 2016-17 schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 8 with an exhibition match at East Tennessee State University. The Pioneers' next regular-season match is on Saturday, Feb. 11 at perennial NAIA powerhouse Georgia Gwinnett.
