Tusculum sweeps singles to defeat Coker 8-1 in suspended match

HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Tusculum College swept all six singles matches from Coker College to earn an 8-1 victory Monday afternoon in a match that had been stopped on March 26 due to rain.

The 44th-ranked Pioneers (14-3, 6-1 SAC) led the Cobras (4-10, 3-4 SAC) by a 2-1 score after doubles, but came back strong after the suspension to earn the victory.

The Pioneers received singles wins from reigning SAC Player of the Week Kealee Heffner, who defeated Jennifer Mezei 6-0, 6-0 at flight one, with Franziska Funke downing Bailey Palmer 7-6, 6-3 at flight two. At flight three, Erin Mills was a 6-7, 6-1, (10-5) victor over Jessi Campos, with Sarah Baker defeating Ragan Palmer 6-0, 7-5 at flight four. Jule Brass won 7-6, 4-6, (11-9) over Suzanna Mickey at flight five, and at flight six Amanda Sumner beat Sarah Elliott by an 8-3 score to close out the victory.

Prior to the stoppage of the match, Tusculum's doubles wins came at flight two, where Mills and Heffner defeated Campos and Elliott by a score of 8-2, and at flight three as Emily Waters and Brass teamed for an 8-2 win over Ragan Palmer and Mickey.

The Pioneers continue their SAC schedule on Tuesday afternoon at Newberry, with match time scheduled for 2 p.m.
