Women's Tennis defeats IUP 7-2 at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The 36th ranked Tusculum College women's tennis team won its first of three-straight matches at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club on Monday, beating Indiana University of Pennsylvania by a 7-2 margin.

TC stays unbeaten in the 2014-15 season at 7-0, while IUP falls to 3-1. Tusculum won the top five singles matches, including a victory by Kaelee Heffner over Tanya Tinko in the one position (3-6, 6-2, 10-7). Erin Mills won her first match of the 2015 spring season by defeating Raquel Gonzalez in the second flight (6-2, 4-6, 10-4).

Franziska Funke and Kate Hutchinson picked up wins in the third and fourth spots respectively. Funke defeated Jarka Petercakova 6-3, 6-4, while Hutchinson defeated Abby McCormick 6-0, 6-2. Sarah Baker was victorious in the fifth spot with a win over Sophie Butland (6-1, 6-4).

In doubles action, Funke and Amanda Sumner defeated McCormick and Gonzalez 8-1 at number two, while Emily Waters and Adrienne Kaye beat Butland and Luise Von Argis 8-4 in the third spot.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow morning against Bloomsburg University at 8 a.m.
