Pioneers grab eighth straight win with 9-0 victory over Virginia-Wise

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College Women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the University of Virginia-Wise in a non-conference match Monday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (9-1) won their eighth straight match and dropped a total of 10 games across six singles matches against the Cavaliers (2-3).

In doubles play, Holly Verner and Katelyn Doss teamed for an 8-2 victory over Brianna and Mary Jo Stallard at flight one, Courtney Conley and Taylor Patterson improved their record to 7-1 with an 8-1 victory at flight two over Whitney Bolling and Lauren Powers, and Kristen Keefer and Katie Hillis shut out Megan Buchanan and Kayla Kilgore 8-0 at flight three.

In singles action, Verner posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Bolling at flight one, Doss defeated Brianna Stallard 6-3, 6-2 at flight two and Conley downed Buchanan 6-2, 6-0 at flight three for her eighth straight win.

At flight four, Pattesron was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Mary Jo Stallard, Kate Hutchinson moved her record to 7-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Powers at flight five and Megan Buckmaster blanked Melissa Blackburn 6-0, 6-0 at flight six.

The Pioneers will play their final nine regular-season matches against South Atlantic Conference opponents, beginning Wednesday with a 2 p.m. match at Carson-Newman.
