ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Magda Mosengo scored 2:12 into overtime as Carson-Newman defeated Tusculum 2-1 in the South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinals Friday afternoon at Manchester Meadows.
Mosengo took a pass from Lauren Wade and curled a shot to the upper right corner from 22 yards as the second-ranked and top-seeded Eagles (16-0-1) advanced to Sunday's championship match against the winner of Friday's other semifinal between Anderson and Wingate.
The fourth-seeded Pioneers (10-7-1) were outshot 24-6 in the match but rode the play of goalkeeper Hannah Graham into overtime, as she finished the match with a season-high 11 saves.
Wade gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 11:28 as she took a pass from Catarina Realista and went in on Graham one-on-one, then fired home her 13th goal of the season.
The Pioneers came back less than four minutes later as Sonja Ballmert headed home a free kick from Yvette Raaijen for her fifth goal of the season at 15:06.
Wade made a bid for her second goal in the 29th minute, but Graham went to her right to make a stop from the top of the box.
Carson-Newman outshot Tusculum 10-3 in the first half, with Graham making five saves for the Pioneers and Jacqueline Burns with one stop for the Eagles.
In the second half, the Pioneers had a good look in the 72nd minute as Ballmert stepped into a shot from distance that sailed inches over the crossbar. Graham came back moments later and made two excellent saves on shot attempts by the Eagles' Emilee Futrell and Helen Seed to keep the score tied at 1-1.
Wade had another bid for the go-ahead goal with 3:40 left, but her blast from 15 yards was pulled in by Graham. Neither team was able to put together a scoring threat from there, sending Tusculum into overtime for the second consecutive match.
Carson-Newman finished the match with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, and were whistled for 15 fouls to seven by the Pioneers. Burns finished with two saves in goal for the Eagles, who were flagged twice for offsides to once by the Pioneers.
