#8 Columbus State shuts out Tusculum, 4-0

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Olivia Jarrell scored two goals and added two assists to lead eighth-ranked Columbus State to a 4-0 victory over Tusculum in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Riley Clark added a goal and an assist for the Cougars (13-1-0), who outshot the Pioneers (10-5-0) by a 30-6 margin in registering their eighth consecutive victory. Columbus State is the number-one ranked team in the Southeast Region according to the latest NCAA Division II regional poll.

The Cougars had the first scoring chance of the match six minutes in, but a shot from Maddy Peterson sailed just wide of the far post. Clark then gave Columbus State a 1-0 lead at 15:42 as she collected a throw-in from Jarrell, turned at the top of the box and rifled a shot past Tusculum keeper Danielle Breen for her 13th goal of the season.

Clark's bid for her second goal was denied on a sliding save by Breen in the 26th minute, and Katja Andersson put the Pioneers' first shot on Cougars keeper Bria Riancho in the 29th minute. Tusculum denied two scoring chances from Columbus State in the 35th minute, as Breen came off her line to stop Clark and defender Maddie Vossen cleared the rebound try from Jarrell.

Columbus State took the 1-0 lead into halftime, and applied immediate pressure to start the second half. Cassandra Wade gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead at 49:02 as she collected a cross from Jarrell and blasted home her 10th goal of the season. Jarrell then pushed the lead to 3-0 just 1:22 later as she put home a rebound of a shot by Clark for her 14th goal of the year.

Jarrell closed out the scoring at 62:18 with her second goal of the match and 15th of the season on an individual effort. She collected the ball 50 yards from goal and dribbled through the Tusculum defense before blasting a shot to the upper corner.

Tusculum's best scoring chance came with 19:37 left as Kate Guildford fired a shot from the top of the box that Riancho leaped to punch over the goal. The Pioneers nearly scored on a broken play in the final 90 seconds, as Indee Jo Swanson caught Riancho off her line but lofted a shot that just went wide of the frame.

The Cougars outshot the Pioneers 12-3 in the first half and added 18 shots in the second half. Columbus State had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, and were called for nine fouls to five for the Pioneers.

Riancho finished with four saves in goal for the Cougars, while Breen had six saves in 68 minutes of playing time before giving way to Tatiana Brady, who had one save in the final 22 minutes for the Pioneers.

Tusculum will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 5 p.m. as Wingate visits Pioneer Field for a South Atlantic Conference match. Tusculum will honor its senior class prior to the start of the contest with the Bulldogs.
