ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum sophomore midfielder Sonja Ballmert has been selected the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's soccer for the week ending Sept. 17, the SAC office announced Monday.

Ballmert scored the winning goal in each match as the Pioneers opened SAC play with wins over Lincoln Memorial (1-0) at home on Wednesday and Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1) on the road on Saturday.

Ballmert's penalty kick in the 47th minute was the only goal in the Pioneers' victory over the Railsplitters Wednesday night at Pioneer Field. Against the Bears, Ballmert served a free kick that was turned into the tying goal with 5:30 left, then scored on a header with 2:33 remaining as Tusculum beat Lenoir-Rhyne on the road for the first time since 2007 and earned the 300th win in program history.

The Frankfurt, Germany native leads the Pioneers with two goals and two assists for six points as the team is off to a 4-1 overall start and 2-0 in the SAC. She is the second straight Pioneer to earn SAC Player of the Week honors, joining Payton DeHart who received the accolade for the week of Sept. 4-10.

The Pioneers will go on the road Wednesday afternoon to face Queens University of Charlotte in a SAC match beginning at 5 p.m., before coming home to host Anderson on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
