KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- The Tusculum women's soccer team is ranked ninth in the Southeast Region in the initial United Soccer Coaches Division II Regional Rankings for the 2017 season.

The Pioneers opened the season with a 3-0 win over West Alabama on Friday, then fell 3-1 to Alabama Huntsville on Sunday to wrap up the week with 1-1-0 record.

Columbus State is the top-ranked team in the region, followed by Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone and Flagler in the top five. The rest of the top 10 consists of Queens in sixth, followed by North Georgia, Anderson, Tusculum and Belmont Abbey.

Five South Atlantic Conference schools (Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Queens, Anderson and Tusculum) are in the top 10 in the region rankings, along with two non-conference opponents of the Pioneers in Columbus State and Limestone.

The United Soccer Coaches College Rankings are an indicator of week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for selection to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.

The Pioneers play their home opener Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. against Tennessee Wesleyan at Pioneer Field.
