The Tusculum College Women's soccer team will host Queens
University of Charlotte Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Field in a
quarterfinal match of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference
Tournament.
The Pioneers earned the third seed in the tournament after
finishing the regular season with a 7-2-2 conference record (9-6-3
overall). Tusculum enters the conference tourney on a streak of
four consecutive shutout victories, and were tied for the fewest
goals allowed in SAC matches with six.
Queens finished in sixth place in its first season as a member of
the SAC, going 5-4-2 in conference matches and 10-5-3 overall. The
Royals played six overtime matches without a loss this season,
finishing with a 3-0-3 record in extra time.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children (ages 6-12),
and $2 for college students. Fans showing the Food Lion MVP card
can save $1 off the price of an adult ticket. The Tusculum athletic
department will be providing the admission charge for Tusculum
students, but they must show a valid TC ID to be admitted. No other
passes will be honored for admission to Tuesday's game.
The teams met in the conference opener on Sept. 18 at Queens, a
match that ended in a 0-0 tie. In that match, Pioneer keeper
Marissa Williams stopped a penalty kick in the 18th minute to
preserve the draw.
Williams has enjoyed a standout season for the Pioneers, leading
the SAC with 10 shutouts while ranking second in goals against
average (0.83) and fourth in save percentage (.842). In conference
matches, Williams had eight shutouts in 11 games and led the league
in both goals against average (0.52) and save percentage
(.878).
On offense, the Pioneers are led by sophomore forward Taylor Lewis,
who posted team highs of six goals and four assists for 16 points.
Senior Amy Neltner added three goals (all game-winners) and had
three assists for nine points, while senior Monica Perez has a goal
and four assists for six points.
The Royals are led on offense by the tandem of Kelli Gottry (nine
goals) and Caitlyn Rodrigues (seven goals, five assists), who
shared the team lead with 19 points. Brooke Foil added five goals
and six assists for 16 points as the Royals scored 35 goals in 18
matches.
Jessyca Young started 15 matches in goal for Queens and compiled a
9-4-2 record with five shutouts and a 1.24 goals against
average.
The winner of Tuesday's match will play in a semifinal match on

the winner of a quarterfinal match between second-seeded Wingate
and seventh-seeded Newberry. The championship match is scheduled
for Sunday at 4 p.m., with the SAC Tournament champion receiving an
