Marissa Williams named to Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team

DURHAM, N.C. --- Tusculum College goalkeeper Marissa Williams has been named to the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Women's Soccer All-District Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Williams advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced next month.

Williams, a junior from Canton, Mich., has a 3.85 cumulative grade point average while majoring in middle grades education.

The 2013 Preseason All-SAC second team selection has started in all 17 matches for the Pioneers, while recording a South Atlantic Conference leading nine shutouts, which are the second most in school history. Her 0.87 goals against average is second in the league and currently the fourth lowest in a TC single-season.

The 2011 NSCAA All-Southeast Region third team choice has accounted for 77 saves in her 1,545 minutes of play where she has posted an 8-6-3 record, including 6-2-2 in league play as the Pioneers are currently in third place in the conference standings.

Earlier this season, Williams and the Pioneers recorded five straight shutouts from Sep. 18-Oct. 6, while not allowing a goal in 522 consecutive minutes. Tusculum is riding a three-match winning streak, which have been all shutouts. In fact, the Pioneers have not allowed a goal in six straight home matches, dating back to Sep. 10 against Belmont Abbey.

Williams is already the program's all-time leader with 23 shutouts. She is second all-time in career minutes played (4,896) and career saves (248), while her 0.99 career GAA is fifth in Tusculum history.

She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the President's List. Her community service efforts including Special Olympics and the Humane Society.

Members of the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.
