Tusculum College senior defender Carly Whitman has been named
the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in Women's soccer
for the week ending October 27, the conference office announced
Tuesday.
Whitman registered a goal and an assist as the Pioneers claimed 1-0
victories over Lincoln Memorial and Coker to solidify their grip on
a SAC playoff spot. The Rochelle, Ill. native assisted on the only
goal of the match by teammate Gabrielle Whitt in the Pioneers' 1-0
victory over Lincoln Memorial last Wednesday, then broke a
scoreless tie with a goal in the 55th minute of a 1-0 win against
Coker on Sunday afternoon.
Whitman was also a key part of a Pioneer defense that recorded
back-to-back shutouts while allowing a total of 10 shots in goal in
the two matches. Overall, the Pioneers have posted eight shutouts
in 16 matches and have given just six goals in nine conference
matches.
The Pioneers (7-6-3, 5-2-2 SAC) host Carson-Newman on Wednesday at
5 p.m. at Pioneer Field in the final regular-season home match.
Tusculum has already clinched a spot in the Food Lion SAC
Tournament and can guarantee a home game in the quarterfinal round
with wins against Carson-Newman on Wednesday and at Newberry on
Saturday.
