Tusculum Women's soccer receives three commitments for 2012 season

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College Women's soccer coach Mike Joy has announced the commitment of three student-athletes to join the Pioneer program for the 2012 season.

Midfielder Courtney Hackney, forward Patti Jordan and forward Taylor Lewis will be part of a Pioneer team that finished 10-7-2 overall in 2011 and shared third place in the final South Atlantic Conference standings with a 5-4 league record.

Hackney, a native of Mason, Ohio, is a four-year letterwinner for the Mason High School team, which participated in regionals in 2008 and 2010 and districts in 2011 under head coach Andy Schur. Hackney is also a member of the Ohio Elite Soccer Academy club program.

"Courtney is a very composed central midfield player. I had the chance to see her play and was very impressed with her distribution of the ball," Joy said. "She comes in as a player for whom we have high expectations, and we are hoping will compete right away."

Jordan, a native of Crossville, Tenn., set a school record at Stone Memorial High School by scoring 27 goals in 2011. An All-State nominee and All-District selection in 2011, Jordan was an All-District honoree in 2008 and 2009, and scored 14 goals in 2010 while playing for head coach Michael Husbands. She has played club soccer for the F.C. Alliance U16 team, the Murfreesboro Lady Strikers U18 team, and the Soccer Club of Oak Ridge.

"I'm very impressed with Patti. She has a lot of speed and is an extremely hard worker on the field," said Joy. "She can play striker or outside midfield, and she has accomplished a lot on both her high school and club teams."

Lewis, a native of Willingboro, N.J., was named All-South Jersey and All-Conference for Willingboro High School in 2009, 2010 and 2011. She scored a school-record 118 goals, including 32 goals as a sophomore in 2009 and 38 goals as a senior in 2011 while playing for head coach Pete Abuiso. Lewis also earned All-Conference honors in both basketball and softball at Willingboro.

"Taylor is the kind of player who we feel can be a game-changer for us," said Joy. "She's an impressive athlete and we will definitely want to put her up top to improve our overall attack."

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of 10 colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
