Tusculum College junior Tramicka James and sophomore Monica
Perez have been named All-South Atlantic Conference in Women's
soccer for the 2011 season, the SAC office announced Thursday.
James was a first-team selection at forward while Perez was a
second-team pick at midfield.
They are the 50th and 51st All-SAC selections for Tusculum since
joining the South Atlantic Conference for the 1999 season, and the
Pioneers have had at least one first-team All-Conference pick in
each of the last 12 years.
James (Wilson, N.C.) repeated as a member of the first team after
leading the SAC in total goals (15), goals per match (0.830), total
points (34) and points per match (1.89). She scored at least one
goal in 10 of the Pioneers' 19 matches, including four multi-goal
games, and tallied three game-winning goals including the winner
with 18 seconds left in 2-1 win over Catawba on Oct. 22.
In nine conference matches, James scored eight goals and tallied 17
points, including her third career hat trick in 3-0 win over
Newberry on Oct. 1. Overall, James scored 15 of team's 33 goals for
the season.
James became the third player in program history to reach 100
career points with an assist in the Pioneers' 3-0 win at
Carson-Newman on Oct. 26, while her 43 career goals are tied for
third on the program's all-time list. She will enter her senior
season tied for ninth in career assists with 16 and in third place
on the career scoring list with 102 points.
Perez (Austin, Texas) started all 19 matches as an attacking
midfielder, and finished with three assists to rank second on the
squad to James. Perez assisted on two of James' three goals in the
victory over Newberry on Oct. 1, and added a helper in the season
opener against Montevallo on Sept. 2. She was one of seven Pioneers
to appear in every game, and one of just four to start every
contest.
SAC regular-season champions Lenoir-Rhyne swept the major
individual awards, as Catherine Hauck was named SAC Player of the
Year for the second straight season, Hanna Kiebel was honored as
Freshman of the Year and Adrian Blewitt was named Coach of the
Year.
In addition to James' statistical championships in goals and points
per match, Tusculum freshman goalkeeper Marissa Williams earned a
share of the conference title in shutouts with six, along with
Ashlyn Hardie of Wingate and Kaitlyn Neipp of Anderson.
The Pioneers finished 10-7-2 overall and tied for third place in
the SAC with a 5-4 league record. Tusculum was eliminated from the
Food Lion SAC Tournament via penalty kicks by Anderson after the
teams played to a 0-0 draw in quarterfinal action Tuesday
afternoon.
