Wingate overpowers Tusculum, 5-0

WINGATE, N.C. --- A five-goal barrage in the second half powered Wingate University to a 5-0 victory over Tusculum College in a South Atlantic Conference Women's soccer match Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (9-2-0, 4-0-0 SAC) received a goal and three assists from Kelly Adams to claim their eighth straight victory, while snapping the five-match winning streak of the Pioneers (8-4-0, 3-1-0 SAC).

Wingate's scoring outburst spanned 24 minutes, 20 seconds, from the tiebreaking goal by Stefanie Schroeder at 51:19 to a tally from Megan Mastalerz at 75:59. The Bulldogs outshot the Pioneers 12-5 in the second half and 19-9 in the match.

Adams assisted on Schroeder's goal and one from A.J. Lightbody at 57:09 before scoring on a cross by Lightbody at 59:57 for a 3-0 Wingate lead. Adams' corner kick was headed in by Hannah Holsclaw at 67:53 to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead before Mastalerz closed out the scoring with just over 14 minutes to play.

For Tusculum, Zaily Mejia was the top offensive threat with three shots on goal in the final 16 minutes, but Wingate's Ashlyn Hardie saved them en route to a four-save shutout. Marissa Williams tallied five saves in goal for the Pioneers.

Tusculum continues on the road Thursday afternoon with a 3 p.m. match at Young Harris.
