Pioneers rally for 1-1 draw at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tramicka James scored the tying goal in the 73rd minute to lift Tusculum College to a 1-1 draw with host Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference Women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.

The Pioneers, who entered the match with five wins in a row, moved to 8-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the SAC with the tie, while the Indians remained at .500 overall at 6-6-3 and 2-4-2 in the SAC.

James' goal at 72:17 was her 15th of the season and extended her streak of consecutive games with a goal to six, during which she has netted 12 goals.

Catawba took a 1-0 lead at 20:16 when Andrea Dunshie scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Juliana Conte, and the Indians preserved the advantage until James put home the equalizer 52 minutes later, with an assist credited to Amber Marceau.

Action was sparse in the overtime periods, with the Pioneers taking just one shot and the Indians two over the 20 minutes of extra time. Overall, Tusculum held a 14-11 advantage in shots while Catawba had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Rachael Jennings finished with four saves in goal for Tusculum, while Catawba's Lindsay Webster made five saves.

The Pioneers open the final week of their regular season Wednesday night by hosting Carson-Newman in a SAC match, beginning at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
