Mars Hill edges Tusculum in overtime, 2-1

MARS HILL, N.C. --- Salem Woody knocked home the wining goal in the opening moments of overtime to lead the Mars Hill College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Tusculum College Wednesday at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

MHC improves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in TC's league opener.

Woody finished a shot sent in by Caity Murnahan for the match winner at the 90:54 mark of the match. The win was the first overtime victory of the year for the Lions and the second overtime match of the season.

Michelle Meade scored the first goal of the match to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage at the 20:12 mark. She found the back of the net from around 10 yards out. The goal was assisted by Colleen Maloney. The teams took that score into the locker room.

Misha Price tied the match at 1-1 off a rebound sent in by Abby Martin. The tying goal was scored at the 55:02 mark.

Tusculum out-shot MHC by a 17-12 margin, including 12-6 in the second half. Lions' keeper Chelsea Parker recorded the victory as she went the distance in allowing one goal and posted seven saves.

TC keeper Rachael Jennings accounted for eight saves in the loss.

Tusculum returns home Saturday afternoon when the Pioneers host Wingate University for a 2 p.m. league tilt.
