Kavic, Women's Soccer tames Wolves, 7-1

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- Kourtney Kavic recorded a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Tusculum College women's soccer team to a 7-1 victory at the University of West Georgia, Sunday afternoon at University Field.

After dropping their first two matches of the season, the Pioneers (3-3) have won three of their last four contests including both of its matches in Georgia this weekend with the Wolves (2-4) and Friday's 3-1 win over the University of Tampa, played in Columbus, Ga.

Tusculum exploded for a season-high seven goals on the afternoon and wasted little time getting started as Patience Leonard found the back of net, 38 seconds into the match. It was the first of four consecutive goals in the opening half.

Claire Duncan scored the eventual match winner in the 17th minute on a penalty kick. Courtney Turner and Aly Carrino added a goal each in the 27th and 39th minutes, respectively as Tusculum led 4-0.

West Georgia tallied its lone goal of the day, just before halftime when Olivia Noethe scored on assists from Dominique Scapillati and Angie Jolly.

Kavic added her contributions to the Tusculum offensive onslaught when she notched back-to-back goal in the 48th and 65 minutes. Her first tally was assisted by Michelle Meade and Leonard.

Meade wrapped up the scoring at the 75:24 mark when she scored on an assist from Amy Neltner.

Tusculum keeper Kelsey Cunningham recorded her second straight win in goal as she went the distance in allowing one goal and recorded six saves.

The Pioneers outshot the Wolves by a 27-16 margin, including 10-3 on corner kicks.

Tusculum will open South Atlantic Conference play this Wednesday night as the Pioneers travel to Mars Hill College for a 5 p.m. match.
