Haas, Pipkin sweep SAC Player of the Week honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum junior attack Sierra Haas and freshman goalkeeper Kate Pipkin swept the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 4, the league office announced Monday.

Haas scored three goals and added two assists to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Pipkin allowed two goals in 30 minutes in her first collegiate start to capture Defensive Player of the Week accolades. The Pioneers defeated Lees-McRae 17-5 in their season opener Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Haas had two goals and an assist in the first half as the Pioneers built a 10-2 lead at intermission, then contributed a goal and an assist in the second half to finish with a career-high five points. The Canton, Georgia native tied her career high with three goals in the victory.

Pipkin started for the Pioneers and had one save in 30 minutes while allowing two goals to the Bobcats. Pipkin kept Lees-McRae off the board for 17 1/2 minutes at the start of the match, and helped Tusculum recorded eight successful clears in as many attempts.

Tusculum will be home on Sunday, Feb. 11 against second-ranked Florida Southern at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Field.
