ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum women's lacrosse team will be the No. 6 seed in the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will travel to third-seeded Coker College on Tuesday for a quarterfinal game at 3 p.m. in Hartsville, South Carolina.
The Pioneers (5-11) advance to the SAC postseason for a third consecutive year, but will be on the road for a quarterfinal game for the first time after hosting in 2015 and 2016.
Queens won its fourth straight SAC Championship as it went undefeated in league play (8-0) to earn the No. 1 seed in the SAC Tournament. Wingate and Coker posted identical 6-2 records in conference action with the Bulldogs earning the No. 2 seed with its regular-season win over the Cobras. Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne tied for fourth place with 5-3 SAC records. Catawba defeated the Bears in overtime on Saturday and will host the No. 5 seed Bears in a rematch in Salisbury on Tuesday. Tusculum rounded out the top-six as it finished the season with a 3-5 conference mark.
Queens and Wingate each earn a bye to the semifinals and will face the two quarterfinal winners on Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina. The winner of the Tusculum/Coker game will face Wingate at 6:30 p.m. Friday night.
Tusculum will be making its second trip to Hartsville this month to face the Cobras, who came away with a 19-14 win over the Pioneers. Coker leads the all-time series 3-1 with Tusculum. The two teams met in the 2015 SAC Quarterfinal in Greeneville where the Cobras upset the No. 3 seed Pioneers 12-10.
Tusculum is 1-1 all-time in the SAC quarterfinal, including last year's 15-8 win over Brevard to advance to semifinal round for the first time in program history.
