HICKORY, N.C. --- Lenoir-Rhyne put up five goals in the first 10 minutes and went on to a 16-6 victory over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Alyssa Sack scored three goals and Torrey Schwitkis had two goals and three assists for the Bears (5-3, 2-1 SAC), who led 10-1 at halftime and outshot the Pioneers 28-16 in the match.
Emily Gleason scored three goals for the Pioneers (4-6, 2-1 SAC) while Hayley Bartlett, Bailey Lowery and Juliette Cusano each had goals for Tusculum. The Pioneers finished the match with 15 turnovers and were 7-for-13 on clear attempts against the Bears.
Five different players had goals in a 5-0 run for the Bears that spanned 5 minutes, 5 seconds, culminating with a goal from Sack with 20:50 left in the first half. Bartlett put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with 19:58 to go in the half, but the Bears scored five times in the final 10 1/2 minutes to take a 10-1 lead to intermission.
Gleason scored three times in the second half for the Pioneers, but six different players had goals after the break for the Bears, including Sack and Schwitkis.
Rachel Elmore had two goals and two assists in the victory for the Bears, while Lauren Bradley, Frances Williams and Gabby Sousa each had a pair of goals. Kelsie Swanson also had a goal and an assist for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Four different players led the Bears with two ground balls apiece, while four players had a pair of draw controls. Tusculum was led on draws by Madison Malone with five and Gleason with three. Lwery had a pair of ground balls to lead the Pioneers, while Malone had a pair of caused turnovers.
Both teams used three goalkeepers in the match, with Brooke Wagner making three stops in 28 minutes and Kaitlin Winnie adding two stops in 24 1/3 minutes for Tusculum. Ines Flueck had four saves in the first half for the Bears, with Paula Cortezano adding one saves in 25 1/2 minutes in the second half.
Tusculum will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon against Limestone starting at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
