TAMPA, Fla. --- Maggie Gladden and Amanda Voges scored four goals apiece as the University of Tampa defeated Tusculum College 21-7 in non-conference women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon.

Natalie Carraway and Caroline Forester added three goals apiece for the Spartans (4-2), who scored the first six goals of the game and led 14-3 at halftime over the Pioneers (3-3).

Madison Malone led Tusculum with three goals and an assist, but the Pioneers were outshot 31-15 by the Spartans in the first of a three-game trip to Florida over spring break.

Tampa opened the scoring 1:31 into the first half on the first of two straight goals from Allie Popelar, and went ahead 6-0 as Carraway and Rachel Crawford alternated two goals apiece. The Pioneers got on the board with 18:26 to go in the first half on a goal by Hayley Bartlett, and cut the deficit to 6-2 on a goal from Juliette Cusano with 15:14 to play in the half.

The Spartans would score three straight goals to take a 9-2 lead, before the Pioneers' Rachel Holmes trimmed the margin to 9-3 with 10:16 to go in the half. However, Tampa would score the final five goals of the half, including three from Voges, to go into the locker room with a 14-3 lead.

Tampa scored the first four goals of the second half to go ahead 18-3 with 22:12 left, before Tusculum answered with three straight goals as Malone scored twice and Calyn Kelly added one with 16:06 left to pull the Pioneers within 18-6. After the Spartans scored three more goals to take a 21-6 lead, Malone closed out the scoring with her third goal of the day with 3:48 left.

In addition to her three goals and assist, Malone had a team-high six draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Cusano and Emily Gleason each had two draw controls for the Pioneers in the match.

Carraway had three assists to go with her three goals for the Spartans, while Amanda Rom had a team-high four assists for Tampa in the win. Emily Stevenson led the Spartans with four ground balls, while Claire Swanson had four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Brooke Wagner started in goal for the Pioneers and made three saves in the first half, while Kaitlin Winnie had one save during a 19-minute stint in goal in the second half. Mackenzie Hackett had three saves in 23 1/2 minutes in goal for the Spartans, while Jaime Austin had four stops in 36 1/2 minutes in relief.

Tusculum will face 19th-ranked Stonehill on Tuesday at noon in Davenport, Florida in the second game of their three-game trip to the Sunshine State.
