TU women finish sixth in The Battle at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior Katie Tomassoni fired a one-over par 73 to pace the TU women's golf team to a final round 312 and finish sixth in The Battle at Hilton Head.

The Pioneers carded a 36-hole total of 631 to place sixth in the 21-team tournament field. 

Tomassoni's second day charge landed her in a three-way tie for 14th place.  She rebounded from a shaky start going four-over par for his first six holes. But she bounced back nicely with four birdies, including three in a row, along with one bogey and six pars.

Florida Tech led wire-to-wire to win the team title as the Panthers finished with 596, winning by 15 strokes over runner-up Anderson (609).  Carson-Newman was third with 616, followed by Columbus State (625), Lenoir-Rhyne (629), Tusculum, Rogers State (638), Missouri-St. Louis (642), Henderson State (644), Lincoln Memorial (644), Converse (648), Mount Olive (650), King (653), Queens (656), Barton (659), Merrimack (674), Davenport (674), Belmont Abbey (676), Southern Wesleyan (682), Southern New Hampshire (695) and Chowan (807).

Lucy Eaton of Florida Tech captured medalist honors with a two-day score of 73-72=145, winning by one stroke over teammate Lauren Watson (74-72=146).

Tusculum's Julia Johannson posted back-to-back rounds of 78-78=156 and tie for 21st place.  Olivia Cunningham carded 81-80=161 to tie for 37th place, while Jacque Butler placed 42nd with 81-81=162.  Lauryn Munn rounded out the TU scoring with 91-102=193 to finish 103rd.

The Pioneers return to action next week (Mar. 4-5) as they travel to Bluffton, South Carolina for the Low Country Invitational.
