SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team fired an opening round 304 and is in sixth place at the 2018 Patsy Rendleman Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Catawba College at the par-72, 5,973-yard Country Club of Salisbury.
The Pioneers were led by freshman Julia Johannson who carded and even par 72 and is locked in a five-way tie for eighth place and is three strokes behind tournament leader Abbey Hartsell of Lenoir-Rhyne who shot a 69 (-3).
Limestone leads the team competition as the Saints posted a three-under par team score of 285, seven shots ahead of Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke who each carded scores of 292. Anderson is fourth with 299 followed by Young Harris (303), Tusculum, North Georgia (306), Queens (309), Mount Olive (309) and Coker to round out the top-10. Erskine and Lander each shot 313 and are tied for 11th, followed by Barton (314), Catawba (315), North Greenville (321), Belmont Abbey (322), King (333) and Pfeiffer (389).
Johannson posted a steady round finishing with 10 pars, four bogeys and four birdies to post her best score of the young season.
TU seniors Katie Tomassoni and Taylor White each finished with 77 and are tied for 32nd place. Freshman Olivia Cunningham shot 78 and is tied for 37th place while senior Cydney Murrell shot 80 and is in 53rd place.
The 18-team tournament will wrap up on Tuesday with the final round.
