Murrell shoots 72 to take first round lead at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. --- Tusculum University's Cydney Murrell shot an even par 72 to take the first round lead at the 2018 Myrtle Beach Women's Intercollegiate.

Murrell recorded four birdies on the day including two on her final five holes to take a one-shot lead in the 69-player field.  Lenoir-Rhyne's Megan Robb is one stroke behind Murrell after shooting 73 on the 5,937-yard Panthers Run Course at the Ocean Ridge Plantation.

The Pioneers posted a team score of 314 and is tied for third place.  TU is 10 shots out of the lead held by Lenoir-Rhyne as the Bears fired a team score of 304.  Newberry is second with 307 while Tusculum and Converse are tied for third with 314.  Host Lincoln Memorial is fifth with 320, followed by Mount Olive (321), Belmont Abbey (323), Queens University of Charlotte (324), Barton (330), Chowan (346), Emmanuel (353), Sandhills (354) and Virginia-Wise (445).

Tusculum rookie Julia Johannson carded a 77 and is tied for ninth place.  Senior Katie Tomassoni shot 81 and is in 24th place while freshman Olivia Cunningham shot 84 and is tied for 38th.  Senior Taylor White finished with 89 and is tied for 53rd place.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be concluded on Tuesday.
